Diversity training
'Respect for People' is a diversity programme available in workbook and e-learning formats. It covers the 'Protected characteristics' defined by the Equality Act 2010 - race & ethnicity, gender, pregnancy & maternity, reassigned gender, disability, religion & belief, age and sexual orientation - with detailed sections on increasing knowledge, making a difference, and anti-discrimination law. It links to an interactive test.
The test, usually 12 multiple-choice questions, provides proof that individuals have received and gone through the programme. It is taken online or over the phone, using a unique PIN and results are emailed through fortnightly.
The programme provides clients with a complete record of participation and individual attainment. Diversity, which is regulated by the Equality and Human Rights Commission, is important for any employer. But with Equality Duties now in place covering race, disability and gender, and from 2011, the other areas of diversity too, it is particularly critical for those in the public sector.
The standard programme is introduced by Lord Herman Ouseley, and there is a range of options for organisations to add their own introduction, branding and content. Adjustments are available for staff with disabilities.
