25 March 2010

Business services company Grass Roots has merged its Learning and Measurement arms and bolstered the team with the addition of a commercial relations director.

Grass Roots provides communication, education, measurement, reward and event based services, serving 2,100 active clients worldwide, including 41 of the FTSE top 100 and 62 of the world’s top 100 brands.

Jamie Thorpe becomes head of commercial relations and operations with a remit that sees him responsible for sales and marketing across Learning & Measurement, as well as leading the development of identified key accounts. Matt Rouse joins Grass Roots in the new role of commercial relations director, reporting into Jamie Thorpe.

Niamh Power becomes head of operations, responsible for mystery shopping and telephone research, and Vicky Edwards becomes head of client management,  Within Vicky’s team, Trevor Martin, who has been with the company for four years, has been promoted to research director.

Jamie Thorpe commented: “This move brings the obvious and natural connection between measurement and learning closer together, enabling us to offer clients a more compelling, integrated approach. We have a really strong team and I know clients will benefit from our combined expertise, whether it’s from mystery shopping, customer satisfaction surveys or educational and employee engagement programmes.”

The restructure comes as Grass Roots prepares to celebrate its 30th anniversary on 1 April 2010. Key milestones from the company’s 30 year history include:

  • Grass Roots’ first ever mystery shopping report was published in 1981, revealing findings of 1,000 visits to car dealers and advising on ways to improve customer service. Since then the company has grown to provide global mystery shopping programmes to clients in many sectors, conducting over 150,000 visits per annum and millions of customer surveys.
  • Over 32 million IVR (interactive voice response) calls were handled by Grass Roots on behalf of client's customer satisfaction and relationship programmes in the year ending 30 June 2009.
  • In the last year, the Learning team delivered over 91,000 learning courses.
