Grass Roots, the business services company based in Station Road Tring, has announced that it will use the anniversary of its 30th birthday to stage a major musical event to raise money for local sport, schools and the arts.

The Spirit of Tring – Party in the Park,  will be a major music production at the Grass Roots Stadium on Cow Lane, home of Tring Athletic Football Club on Saturday May 15 2010.

Party in the Park will feature a stunning line up of top class music acts:

The fabulously talented and well known local band 'Soul Fish' will kick the event off in style with their unique brand of high energy Soul and Rhythm & Blues.

They will be followed by The Music of Queen – A Rock & Symphonic Spectacular, which features a full rock band and songs from the West End smash hit musical, We Will Rock You, combined with an orchestra, performing epic arrangements of Queen’s huge hits.

The event will conclude with a stunning Proms Symphony Orchestra playing the full range of memorable classics concluding with a fabulous fireworks finale.

All proceeds from tickets and bar sales will be distributed among local football, cricket and rugby clubs, local schools and to support the Grass Roots Court Theatre at Pendley Manor.

The idea is the brainchild of Chairman, David Evans, who founded Grass Roots on April 1 1980. Evans hopes to attract up to 6000 Tring residents to come and Party in the Park, in the knowledge that every single penny spent on tickets will go to supporting the theatre and local schools and encouraging local people to get involved with sport.

Tickets can be purchased via the website www.spirit-of-tring.com with special ‘Early Bird’ prices for those that buy before the end of March.

Evans is confident the event will attract the imagination of the Tring townsfolk:

“I’m reliably advised that a 30th birthday is a rare event in the corporate world and I thought we should use the occasion to see if we could set something going in Tring that builds on the notion that a thriving community is a vibrant, active and collaborative neighbourhood. I see the Spirit of Tring as not just a fundraising vehicle for worthy causes, but also a concept that can sustain a great community spirit for years to come. To get things going, we want to invite the Tring population to join in the biggest and best party the town has ever seen.”

Ian Lewington, Chairman of Tring Park Cricket Club outlined his support for the initiative: “Obviously we are very grateful to be a beneficiary of the Party in the Park and are wholly committed to the Spirit of Tring concept. The money raised will help us to sustain the tremendous facilities we have, not just for the benefit of cricket, but also the other sports and community groups that we share our amenities with. I talk regularly with representatives from other sporting groups in Tring, and it’s clear that working together gives us the best chance of providing the sport and leisure opportunities that meet the needs of our town in this new decade.”

Mick Eldridge, Chairman of Tring Athletic Football Club, says: “Tring Athletic Football Club is delighted to be involved in this exciting celebration. Grass Roots has supported us for many years and we are looking forward to contributing to this community event which promises to be fun for all the family.

The funds we hope to raise are essential in order to keep clubs such as ours running smoothly and we are always incredibly grateful for contributions. We have over 300 members at TAFC and maintaining our great facilities is a high priority for the club”.
